Founded in 1939, the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (National Center for Scientific Research) is a government-funded research organization, under the administrative authority or France's Ministry of Research. As the largest fundamental research organization in Europe, CNRS is involved in all scientific fields, promoting inter-disciplinarity in order to improve knowledge, ensure economic and technological development or solve complex societal problems is one of the major objectives of CNRS interdisciplinary programs.
The Institute for Infocomm Research (I²R) is a member of the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) family. Established in 2002, I²R integrates R&D in information, communications and media (ICM) technologies to develop holistic solutions across the ICM value chain. Its research capabilities are in information technology and science, wireless and optical communications and media analysis, processing and applications. It seeks to enable technologies and processes that will drive new and enhanced services for Singapore's knowledge-based economy.

The Science and Higher Education Section of the Embassy of France in Singapore is supporting this event throught the MERLION2008 program which provides support for joint scientific and technological projects in collaboration with Singaporean research insitutions.
